The window to our souls

Living in the concrete jungle, we often forget about how nature looks like. Green trees, crystal clear lake, blue sky and white clouds. Sounds like what we used to draw during our art classes in pre-school right? But as we grow up, we lose it. We need to remind ourselves how beautiful Mother Nature is. We need to remind ourselves that it's time to take a short break from the computer and social media to give Mother Nature a good glance. But, that's not true. We do make effort to embrace these natural features.

We travel. We take pictures of nature with DSLR. High definition and high resolution. Yes, majestic nature is captured perfectly under the camera lenses.

But we have forgotten to admire the beauty of nature using our bare eyes, the window to our souls. Instead, we contaminate them with vulgarities, violent and sexual content, distorted body images and problematic life attitudes on social media.

Buried in these unpalatable influences, I must admit, it is difficult to stay clean and original. But breaks in between busy life schedules do give me time for respites and a precious chance to cleanse my soul and pick myself up again.

A Day In The Park @ Punggol Waterway Park

It has been a while since Bii and I last went for a date in a park. After weeks of studying, we decided to take a break from books and visit the Punggol Waterway Park. Living in a city close to a concrete jungle, the used-to-be untouched natural scenery has been tainted by industrialization and urbanization. I started to appreciate nature more as I grew older. When I travel overseas, I love including a day just for park visits to simply chill and laze around. Bii, on the other hand, is intrigued by marine creatures and exotic animals. This explains why, both of us enjoy being surrounded by nature and a date in a park trumps any other dates.

Punggol Waterway Park is located at Sentul Crescent Road and it is known as Singapore's longest man-made waterway. You can see it as you walk along the park. There are a couple of activities that are available, for instance, cycling (you can rent a bike at the rental shops), jogging (they have well-maintained walking path for pedestrians and joggers), having picnic (just remember to bring your picnic mat along) etc. Just a small tip: you can bring an umbrella or a cap along because there are only grassy grounds and hills with barely any shady trees that you can rest under in Punggol Waterway Park (girls, do not forget your sunscreen too).

Trees, stones and us
The beautiful green landscape made every step under the scorching sun worth taking. What we love about Punggol Waterway Park is that it has unbelievable majestic picture spots all around the park. We enjoyed documenting our day trip with the breathtaking backdrop.

 How to get there

The nearest MRT station to Punggol Waterway Park is Punggol MRT station. You will then have to take bus 84 from the MRT station to Punggol Waterway Park. Alight at the second stop. Bii and I alighted at the third stop as we wanted to explore the Punggol Settlement as well. Punggol Waterway Park is relatively more lively in the evening as we technically had the whole park to ourselves when we arrived in the afternoon.

Now, let the pictures do the talking!

What did we eat

There are clusters of restaurants nearby and they get really busy at night. After a day of "modelling" in the park, we tried The Original Sembawang White Beehoon. The waiting time was around 20-30 minutes. Not sure they accept reservations but go early if you mind waiting!
